Why Docemus?

Through theoretical-practical procedures we train local medical personnel wherever needed: an action whose benefits are meant to be for the long-term, improving the quality of the medicine training locals and helping them with the management to build up autonomy within time. Listening to people and understand contexts beforehand, establishing how to help at a later stage. There’s no future without instruction. Training is the future. It’s like that for us, why shouldn’t it be for the others? Quite often we learn from students and different contexts. Our approach nurtures a mutual exchange of inspiration, knowledge and ideas.

Nowadays there’s still an important gap between modern medicine, supported by technology, and the applied one with manual methods, less accurate and reproducible. In many environments diagnose and treat diseases of any form is a trial, even without proper medicines or suitable facilities: wrong and inadequately planned methodologies, insufficient respect for the basic procedures and lack of organisation often compromise the results. It is possible to teach by correcting these and other avoidable superficial mistakes.

Starting from these assumptions, Docemus’ objectives are:

  • Improving local health workers’ training system (both medical and technical) in order to provide them with autonomy;
  • Putting into motion analytical laboratories, from the layout till the start-up through the management, in hospitals or other health centres in collaboration with other NGO/non-profit organisations. We deal with local personnel selection and training, being this of vital importance for the potential future autonomy of the structure;
  • Training young medicine trainees in Italy and teaching basic but fundamental theoretical and practical techniques, now become obsolete in modern analytical laboratories thanks to the high presence of technology, hugely important in contexts lacking of resources.
