Ophthalmology

The Docemus ophthalmic area aims at low income countries with a poor medical expertise, and initially develops as a resource for teaching basic clinical procedures (medical and outpatient) for the treatment of non-surgical pathologies with high prevalence such as myopia, glaucoma, ocular infectious diseases. The social impact of these diseases is considerable and appropriate therapy can have immediate effects on the quality of life of patients with (low-cost) treatments. It is essential that in dedicated ophthalmologic facilities, knowledge is transferred to resident healthcare staff to carry out simple diagnostic tests for the identification and treatment of these pathologies. It is equally important to be able to provide adequate equipment (it is also possible to use abandoned equipment in Italy and sent on site by specific donation) and finding presidiums such as glasses of various degrees (donations of used lenses), anti-glaucomatous drugs and antibiotics.
Subsequent phases of the project will be aimed at the realization of surgical surgeries and operating rooms for the implementation and teaching of basic ophthalmologic surgery for disabling and diffused diseases.
